Roselli Foreign Car Repair San Jose - Ferrari 360 Wheel on a Ferrai 355?
Here is some interesting feedback regarding 360 Wheels on a 355.
A 1999 355 F1 came with 360 wheels on it... stock 360's. The rear tires were far too wide for the 355. They would rub the fender well when the the slighest bump was taken or a mild turn was made. One solution was to to have the rims machined as a temporary solution. 15mm was removed from the hub and the inner edge on the mount machined back 15mm (inner edge centers the wheel on the wheel hub).
The 15mm was perfect. The car now handles extremely well and the rear tires fit under the wheel well. The 360 rim has so much material at the hub that the 15mm barely put a dent in it... so safety is not a concern. The tires do not rub, even when taking bumps at high speed. Testing the car in the comfort suspension mode still provided maximum flexibility to the rear wheels.
I would recommend still keeping the factory rims in case you enter the car for judging in a Concours D'Elegance.
If you are going to put 360 rims on a 355, you MUST machine the rear rims by 15mm. It is the perfect spec for the width problem.
A machine shop can complete the process in about 2 hours per rim and should not charge you more than $150-$200 per rim.
