Roselli Foreign Car Repair San Jose - The New Lamborghini Aventador

In yet another happy chapter of our lives, we've been among the first to hop in the year's most hotly anticipated exotic, the 2012 Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4. After the super sport's debut at this year's Geneva Motor Show in March, plus some previous prototype drives while still in camouflage, all that remained was the tell-all day behind its wheel on a hot circuit. We survived. And the seat of our pants is permanently creased by the Aventador's electrifying, world-conquering performance.

It's about time that Lamborghini put its V12 model front-and-center again, and this is what the four-year development of the Aventador has been all about. Only at the very start of its life did the Murciélago ever garner this type of attention. Once its Gallardo V10 sibling was launched, the poor old Murc didn't take it so well and lived deep in the shadows of Lambo's popstar "people's car."

We'll get some more civilian road time in the Aventador this summer, but on the aggressive track of Vallelunga outside of Rome, the 691-horsepower brute with 509 pound-feet of torque at the ready couldn't get enough of our animal instincts. It devours a track like a bull that eats red meat. It's fantastically disturbing. Most impressive right off the bat is – as we've experienced with the occasional twelve-cylinder Ferrari – exactly how malleable this track terror is on a normal day in Strada mode (i.e. Street), yet in the next instant it can hammer out a record lap in Corsa mode (Race).
In between these two extremes, there's the Sport setup that puts the throttle, innovative seven-speed "Independent Shifting Rods" automated manual transmission, steering feel and the stability control, all in just the right mood for carving up your favorite piece of tarmac. The race-ready inboard Ohlins pushrod dampers inspired by open-wheel Formula cars are not multi-mode adaptive, but we're dealing with a full-time aggressive 217-mph car, so let's be honest: The simpler the better, and the settings Lambo has chosen feel right over most any surface. It's always healthy to keep in mind that the company wants to sell 750 of these per annum, not take on the BMW 7 Series for all-around livability and market dominance. They also want the Aventador to be race-ready for privateers who want to conquer the GT1 class at Le Mans.

Initial acceleration figures to 62 mph put the LP700-4 at 2.9 seconds. That's getting a touch into Bugatti Veyron territory and matches the latest Porsche 911 Turbo S and McLaren MP4-12C. Once the twisties start, the big muzzer Lambo (which is nearly 200 pounds lighter than the Murc at 3,472 pounds dry) shows its substance, and the handling provided by the latest-generation electronically active Haldex IV all-wheel drive versus the Murc's viscous/passive system is well beyond anything the latter was ever capable of at its limits. This was made clear all day long at Vallelunga, a collection of tough corners that takes some learning.

Roselli Foreign Car Repair San Jose - Tour of the Ferrari Factory

A town in northern Italy, near Bologna, Maranello has been home to Ferrari since the 1940s. At more than 250,000 sq metres, the factory's 45 buildings house more than 3,000 workers. It is here that passion, innovation and technology combine to create the company’s GT and Formula 1 cars. On 3 December 1942, planning permission was granted for a small plant making machine tools in Maranello. From the Scuderia Ferrari headquarters in Via Trento Trieste in Modena, Enzo Ferrari chose to go to Maranello because, as he wrote in his memoirs, he owned "a piece of land in the immediate vicinity of where the factory is today".

The Chairman's building
The Chairman's building was built in 1979 and then extended in 1986 right into the centre of the courtyard that marks the boundary of the old Ferrari site. The building is home to various different departments, but it still remains at the heart of the company, housing the Chairman's office as well as that of the Vice-Chairman, the General Director and the Finance Director.

Product Development Centre
The Product Development Centre was planned by the designer Fuksas, who wanted to provide the engineers and technicians with inspiration as they 'invent' the Ferraris of the future.

This building symbolises the essence of the creative process, thanks to its glass walls, which create an air of transparency, where ideas and individuals can move freely to create the Ferraris of the future.

Restaurant
Designed by Marco Visconti, the new Company Restaurant marks a departure, in terms of architectural expression, from the geometrical precision of the surrounding buildings. The main structure shields the interior from direct sunlight, and the corrugated steel covering creates natural ventilation.

The complex is arranged over three levels. The covered piazza on the ground floor overlooks Viale Enzo Ferrari and gives workers a place to meet and socialise. A training centre and the kitchen, with a calming hanging garden, are on the first floor.

The top floor is home to the light and bright dining area, with vast arched windows, adding to the sense of space. The furniture is designed by Cappellini, and is laid out in islands to allow people to gather in groups. As much attention is put into the dining experience as into the environment, with a focus on quality ingredients, menu variety, and service.

Roselli Foreign Car Repair San Jose - Record Run at Nurburgring 7 minutes 19.63 seconds

It's always a good day when a new Nürburgring video pops up, and it gets better when the seven or so minutes of on-the-limit footage are scored with the sound of the Chevrolet Corvette ZR1's 6.2-liter, supercharged V8.
The latest ZR1 lapped the 12.9-mile, 154-turn course in 7 minutes 19.63 seconds, besting its previous time set in 2008 by more than six seconds. Driver/Corvette engineer Jim Mero and the car moved up to seventh on the unofficial list of production-car 'Ring times on Wikipedia. Of the relatively common marques on the list, only Porsche's GT2 RS bests the Corvette ZR1.
While Mero--who also set the ZR1's fast 'Ring time in 2008--might have found some time within himself, it is obvious that most, if not all of the improved performance comes from the new, optional Michelin Pilot Sport Cup tires. Street-legal but essentially made for competition--or at least serious on-track driving--the Michelin Cup rubber works best in dry, warm conditions.
Mero set the ZR1's 2008 time in a car running on its standard Michelin Pilot Sport tires. The Cup tires improve the car's performance by about 8 percent, according to General Motors.
Other than a few safety modifications, which actually added weight, GM said the car ran in exactly the same specification as what customer's receive.
Check out the video and look for a few hairy moments when Mero gets loose, and one point where he takes a turn at about 180 mph.

Roselli Foreign Car Repair San Jose - 1957 German Grand Prix

In what the Times described as "the finest drive of his glorious career" Juan Manuel Fangio won the German Grand Prix after stunning the crowd to overhaul the Ferrari of Mike Hawthorn in the closing stages. He had been nearly a minute behind at the halfway point but repeatedly broke his own lap record at the Nurburgring of 9:41.1 finally setting an incredible time of 9:17.4. There can have been no better way for him to secure his fifth and last world title.

Hawthorn and Peter Collins set the early pace, with Hawthorn breaking Fangio's lap record from the previous year on lap two, only to have Fangio quickly snatch it back. On the third lap, Fangio passed both Ferraris and started to pull away. But his scheduled pit stop was painfully slow and when he re-joined he was back in third. Fangio put his foot down, again lowering the lap record to re-pass the Ferraris.

In fairness to Hawthorn, he fought back, helped by Fangio's seat coming loose. "I had to drive pressing my knee against the side of the car and holding on to the steering wheel to stop myself rolling around the cockpit," he said. Even Hawthorn admitted that "even though Peter and I had been beaten, we thoroughly enjoyed it".

The Vanwalls which had dominated at Aintree had a torrid time on a much more punishing circuit and Stirling Moss battled hard to finish fifth. He had nothing but praise for Fangio. "It was one of the classic drives of all time by perhaps the greatest driver," he said. "I know the world 'incredible' is much devalued these days, but what he achieved is absolutely that."

Afterwards Fangio was to tell his team that it was probably the fastest he had ever driven in his career. "When it was all over I was convinced I would never be able to drive like that again - never," he said. "I had reached the limit of my concentration and will to win."

His words were accurate. It was to prove his 24th and final world championship victory. He had four grands prix and a brace of seconds ahead of him, but he had signed off in the most fitting way.

Roselli Foreign Car Repair San Jose - Howard Hughes' Rare 1936 Lincoln Tagged at $1 Million

Rare cars rarely go on auction. Anyone who will see a 1936 Aero Mobile Lincoln may have their jaws drop to the floor especially when they know the history that it was part of Howard Hughes’ legacy.
One of the most famous, intriguing American Socialite, Howard Hughes was known to come up with his odd but wonderful creations. He built the biggest flying boat and other interesting works which are very impressive.
Hughes was also a film director and producer, an aviator, and an industrialist. He had the finances to cover for his fancies being considered one of the richest persons in the world. His machines helped him conquer some of the world records.
Howard Hughes’ knowledge of the science of flight met with the world of automotive in this 1936 Lincoln that came to be known as the Aero Mobile.
He reduced the weight of the car dramatically and modified the engine so that in can zoom into speeds beyond 100 mph. During his time, a speed like it was unheard of with passenger cars.
The Lincoln still sports the classy face with the bolted tail that will remind anyone of the imagination of its creator. It may not win any car shows based on look, but its legacy as one of Hughes’ creations make the 1936 beauty a big winner.
Big winner it is. It got a $1 million bid during the Tulsa, Oklahoma Leake Collector auction.

Roselli Foreign Car Repair San Jose - e-Wolf Alpha2 Exotic Electric Car Gets Green Light

The power potential of electric cars is enormous, and sports car makers are really starting to exploit that fact. The e-Wolf Alpha2 can sprint from 0-60 mph in under 4 four seconds and will actually be built.

Now while it is true that the Tesla Roadster is also capable of such crazy speeds, the Tesla lacks that supercar flair that comes with so many European exotics. One look at the Alpha2 though, and you know its an exotic car that means business. The two electric motors can provide bursts of power up to 375 ponies and 590 ft-lbs of torque (800 Nm), allowing it to hit a top speed of 230 mph.

Of course none of that matters if the battery doesn't last long enough to get you home. The range is said to be in the 185 mile/300 km range, which is actually rather impressive given the performance of this car (though driving flat-out will surely drain the battery quickly). What is also impressive is the price; $423,000, before you add any options. But at least you get an impressive soundtrack to go along with the vehicle, as the Alpha2 will also make fake car noises. Because why spend all that money if nobody can hear you?

Roselli Foreign Car Repair San Jose - Porsche as Trouble With Their New Prototype

It is sad to see any car burn to the ground especially a new Porsche prototype.

In the city of Steinegg, Germany, a test mule 2012 Porsche 911 Cabriolet burned down during a routine test drive. Around 6:30 yesterday morning, the Neuhausen Steinegg fire department marched out with a total of twelve men after the driver reported an engine fire in his 911.

“The car has burned like tinder,” said fire chief Commander Klaus Buchinger. The car was completely burnt out within 15 minutes.

According to a Porsche insider, the camouflaged Porsche 911 was on a test drive using an engine specifically developed for the Chinese market. The exact cause of the fire is unknown at this stage. The vehicle was transported to the Porsche center in Weissach for further examination.

Roselli Foreign Car Repair San Jose - Goodwood of Speed Festival

Ferrari test driver Marc Gené showed off the 2010 Ferrari F10 yesterday at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, an experienced he described as ‘an absolute honour’
The car, which in the hands of Fernando Alonso scored five race wins last season, was taken over the hill climb in front of the enthusiastic crowd lining the historic track.

“This is one of the most successful Ferraris and to drive this car up the hill at Goodwood is an absolute honour,” said Gené. “It’s really very special for me to be here, and I can tell you that the hill is very very fast.”

There are also several classic Ferraris on display at Goodwood this weekend, including a unique 375 MM from 1953, a beautiful 246 Tasman from 1968 and a superb 312 B3 from 1973. They can all be seen over the weekend in both the F1 Paddock and the Cathedral Paddock.
